Aircraft pilot training – what are the requirements?

Before beginning your aircraft pilot training, you must meet several fundamental formal requirements.

  • Aviation medical certificate – this is essential. You must pass a medical examination and obtain the appropriate certificate: Class 1 for aspiring commercial pilots or Class 2 for private pilots.
  • Candidate's age – aircraft pilot training in the air can begin once you are 16 years old. However, the PPL(A) licence itself cannot be issued until after your 17th birthday.
  • Education – you must have completed at least primary education or the former lower-secondary level.
  • Knowledge of English – English is the official language of aviation. It is essential for radio communication and using international training materials.
