Training towards the IR(A) – Instrument Rating (Aeroplane) begins with a theory course covering the knowledge an aircraft commander needs to fly by reference to flight instruments in accordance with IFR (Instrument Flight Rules).

Related training includes EIR(A) theory and EIR(A) flight training.

The theoretical training programme towards the IR(A) instrument rating follows European standards and applicable FCL rules. It covers air law and air traffic control procedures, general aircraft knowledge and instrumentation, aircraft performance, IFR flight planning and monitoring, meteorology, radio navigation, IFR communications, and human performance and limitations. IR(A) theoretical training at Ventum Air follows a programme approved by the President of the Polish Civil Aviation Authority under the certificate held by Ventum Air ATO. The programme comprises 129 hours of self-study using an e-learning platform and 21 hours of classroom lectures during one 3-day session at our school. The course takes 6 weeks and covers 7 subjects in accordance with FCL requirements. A PPL(A) licence is required before starting the course.

The e-learning platform used for training at Ventum Air ATO includes PDF presentations, supporting materials and a bank of 7000 exam questions with correct answers.

The theoretical training for IR(A) ends with an internal exam and the issue of a certificate that allows you to begin flight training. The certificate is recognised in all EASA member states.

The IR(A) theory course fee does not include the Jeppesen/Oxford book set, which every student must be able to access during training.
