FI(A) theory course – 125 hours, groups of up to 12

The FI(A) theoretical training course teaches you how to teach: instructional techniques, managing the training process, assessing and examining students, and safely simulating in-flight failures. It is taught by instructors who train at Warsaw-Babice every day, including Marek Różyński (20,075 flight hours and 15 years at LOT Polish Airlines) and Damian Kruczek (7500 hours, FI/IR on single- and multi-engine aeroplanes). The course is available in Polish or English.

For many pilots, an FI(A) rating is their first paid job in aviation and a way to build hours before joining an airline. This is how some of our graduates who now fly for Wizz Air and Enter Air began their careers (graduate careers). Complete the flight-training stage with us: FI(A) flight training.

To support the quality of our training, we have also prepared exercise sets to help you prepare effectively for your future work as an instructor. The theoretical training comprises 125 hours of lectures and exercises in subjects including applied teaching techniques, the training process, student assessment and examination, and hazards associated with simulated in-flight failures. Classes take place in groups of no more than 12, giving every participant direct access to the instructor. The course ends with an internal exam and the issue of the relevant certificate. To begin training, you must:

  1. hold at least a PPL(A) licence;
  2. have at least 10 hours of instrument flight time, of which up to 5 hours may have been completed in an FSTD;
  3. have at least 20 hours as pilot-in-command on VFR cross-country flights;
  4. have completed a VFR cross-country flight as pilot-in-command of at least 540 km (300 NM), with full-stop landings at 2 aerodromes other than the departure aerodrome;
  5. hold a CPL(A); or
  6. hold a PPL(A) and
    1. meet the CPL licence requirements, except when training as an FI(A) who will instruct only towards LAPL(A); and
    2. have completed at least 200 hours of flight time in aeroplanes or touring motor gliders, including 150 hours as pilot-in-command;
  7. have completed at least 30 hours in single-engine piston aeroplanes, including 5 hours within the 6 months before the pre-entry flight test specified in FCL.930.FI(a).
  8. have completed the pre-entry flight test specified in FCL.930.FI(a).

The pre-entry flight test is used to assess whether the candidate is ready to begin instructor training.
